When it comes to Kinect, there are few developers out there that truly get the device and while we only occasionally get a release for the peripheral it is Virtual Air Guitar that always provides the best experiences. With this third entry in the Boom Ball for Kinect series we get the most refined and well rounded release yet. With fifty levels players can blast blocks alone or with another player while not being tethered to a certain area. Gone are the days of standing on two sides of the virtual world and now you can cross over to slap the balls towards the blocks.
There are also now difficulty mode for more stars that vary in challenge, but don't prevent gameplay progression. This is then matched by an unlock system for paddles or the option to make your own using the Kinect camera. The levels vary greatly with each region being a fresh environment and there being multiple dynamics within those landscapes to make each level feel distinct. With that it feels like a tour around the world with some fun surprises and variations along the way.
It's very familiar to those that have played the other two games and this one mostly just aims to enhance a solid experience. The design is simple, but a lot of fun to play and there's enough challenge there for it to feel rewarding as you progress. It does a great job of teaching players the various key features as you move through the initial levels and I liked the small tweaks to how balls or enemies reacted within the area. The cooperative multiplayer is nicely improved and it's a great option to play the entire game alone or with another individual. The game is very responsive, the colors are bright and it's backed by majestic backdrops. The areas really do look great and the visuals have had a nice touch with this one.
Boom Ball 3 for Kinect is an excellent addition to anyone that owns the peripheral and this is a fine evolution of the series. The levels are creative, well designed and very distinct offering a variety of environments to blast various shapes with. I loved the fun designs they made and this is perfect for all ages. It's a lot of fun and a decent work out as you move about attempting to keep the ball in play. The difficulty options were well welcomed as there's more challenge and generally the core concept is perfect. I really enjoyed this Kinect title and it's nice to get active while interacting with a game. Boom Ball 3 for Kinect really hits all the marks for the device. I particularly loved their addition of fun drawing that you can wave over for an animation, it was a nice touch.
