Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash is finally heading West on Playstation 4 bringing with it a roster of lovely ladies ready to squirt and blast each other with water guns. It's got all the intensity of the series rolled up into what's actually a decent third person shooter. I was quite surprised at how well it plays considering most just enjoy this series for the overly sexual tones it suggests. That's not the case here as I can see this becoming an interesting little tactical shooter. I've just started playing this series over the last year with Estival Versus and then the cooking one finding them to be quite fun.
They're hilarious to some degree and actually present each of the smaller types of game genres well. In this one you run or jet around blasting each other with water. Characters can actually get downed and then you can splash their clothes off as a sort of execution. I compare it somewhat to Gears of War and you should too since that makes it hilarious. You reload by quickly jacking (yep, literally) the gun anywhere and then moving forward to keep splashing.
Matches are incredibly fast paced and a lot of fun to play in. You just roll through the level fighting and the competition is good. I was only able to battle the AI at E3 since it's not setup for anything else and there was enough of a challenge. The game also has some extra levels of play with abilities and you'll need to build strategies around that. I felt that the game was also well balanced during combat and it'll be interesting to see how that is in other modes.
The visuals are also a treat since they pop with colors and bring a light, fun style of art. The animations are well done and the mini execution scenarios are quite something... It's essentially just a frenzy of characters that fans know from the series as I already recognized the majority of them and it continues that core concept of the series. There will of course be options for different clothing sets if you were curious. It just displays it in a different way for Peach Beach Splash and I look forward to the full version of the game for Western and or other markets on Playstation 4.
