As of June 2017, there will have been 100 Games with Gold on Xbox 360 and I thought it would be great to go over some the big games or well surprises that released for free on Xbox. For those that somehow don't know about Games with Gold, it's part of the Gold subscription that grants players four free games a month. You get two current Xbox games and two Xbox 360 games that are backwards compatible. The program somewhat started in June 2013 with Fable III being free for members, but the official kick-off was in July with Defense Grid: Awakening and Assassin's Creed II.
Not a bad start for sure, but the follow-up of Crackdown and Dead Rising 2 was even more sweet. Since then it's been a balance of some months killing it with the free games with many others just being a meh. I don't mind getting the free games since they cost nothing, but I am missing a few in that period before knowing that Xbox Backwards Compatibility was a thing as I got bored turning on the Xbox 360 just to download something I wasn't going to play. That aside, it's been an amazingly diverse list of games with this 100 mark spanning all sorts of genres and publishers.
With this wide range of games we've gotten everything from the mighty first party of Halo 3, Halo Reach and Gears of War while only seeing Forza Horizon just before it was delisted. Some smaller favorites include Charlie Murder, BattleBlock Theater, Gotham City Impostors (needs Xbox Backwards Compatible support so badly) and Toy Soldiers. There's been such a range of titles from the rich Xbox 360 library and it really hasn't slowed down at all even having bonus months with a third game on the odd occasion. It's definitely got great support from publishers and in combination with the Xbox Backwards Compatibility program it's a great way to see these games get a revival with their community.
The Xbox 360 list of games has truly been a strong dive into the library, especially if you've been collecting them since the start of the program. Even then, it's great to see this receiving continuous support and it's something to look forward to at the end of each month to grow my Xbox library even further. It's basically impossible to describe all the best games from this list, but some other great ones to check out include Bioshock: Infinite, Tomb Raider, Borderlands, LEGO Star Wars TCS and obviously Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise!
While many games have been ones I've gotten to revisit, some of them were new to me like Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel and Sleeping Dogs which were enjoyed. I also can't do this discussion without mentioning the legendary Pool Nation FX, while that's Xbox One only it's still one of the most glorious Games with Gold.
