Dropzone is a MOBA/RTS hybrid that aims to take the base formula of what makes RTS titles so addicting and place it into a 15 minute time slot. This works well as I was able to play an entire match and the time flew by quite quickly as I heavily focused on what was going on. Controlling a set team of mechs you battle it out against another player for complete map control. There are also a number of objective type scenarios such as moving cores to the middle or taking out enemy type mobs. It also keeps things relatively balanced as well in regards to making killing not the main focus aside from being spawn penalized. This kept the pace going and the tide even despite the fact I was crushing my opponent in kills so there's more it it than just that.
There's also a great selection of combinations available to customize each of your mechs in order to continuously keep the game fresh and that will be great to keep people battling as match-ups will be unique. The game also looks great, controls well and has pleasing combat with a variety of colorful effects going on. It most of all keeps things simple while playing and draws your complete interest as any misstep could easily change the tides of the match. The dev team was also very passionate about the title as I was able to chat with some before and during the session. They were really into the game and going over their own competitive approach so the right group of folks with a long proud RTS history are working to make this great. I enjoyed what I played at E3 with no complaints other than my other staffer I battled against being a bit too easy, look forward to seeing how this turns out.
