Battlefield Should Beat Call of Duty this Year

One of the more interesting battles over recent years has been that of Battlefield going head to head with the genre leader and money making machine that is Call of Duty. If the signs are correct as everyone is really pushing for out there on the internet then Battlefield 1 (hilarious title, not bad though) should destroy Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It has all the push from the online community with even a number of hilarious gifs (DICE beating Activision "click here") which doesn't make any sense since one's a publisher and the others a developer so whatever with that one. There's also the video below which I always get a good laugh from about what Activision is doing to the franchise and a hate #RIPCoD going across Twitter at the moment. Battlefield 1 is also giving the fans of the series and shooter fans in general what they want with a World War shooter as the setting takes places in WW1 though I still wouldn't consider this a battle yet.

If you take a look at the past sales for the Call of Duty franchise that while it's been in a decline this generation, the games are still generally outselling Battlefield titles at a considerable amount of far over 2 to 1. These are based on the online project sales so not exact, but they do give a good idea of about where the two franchises are at which is why I didn't want to go into exact numbers. I still feel that despite the huge following that Battlefield has suddenly received this may not carry into the full release of the game and that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will still come out on top by a landslide. While it's nice that Battlefield 1 is being bold with the move back in time as the current future genre is getting tiresome and that their theater of war is better it just most likely won't hold up against Call of Duty.

This year features yet another futuristic Call of Duty which I thought looks neat to some degree, but it also has long time best in series Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward building it. The higher up version also includes a remaster of Modern Warfare that is a must buy for me with no questions asked on pricing and it's got a new side mode of zombies that has always been a draw in the Black Ops series. It would definitely be something if Battlefield did beat Call of Duty with this wave of enthusiasm and internet jokes though I still don't realistically see it happening yet. If Call of Duty does continue to dip in sales each year at some point the two might be closer, but I don't see that shift happening with these two though it could very well happen. We'll have to wait until the holiday season to find out which one of these shooters lands on top and I'm looking forward to checking out both at this point though I'll have better judgment after viewing them at E3 this year.
