PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on Xbox One was a Big Win

While I wasn't initially sure how PlayerUnknown's Battleground was going to do on Xbox considering how poor the performance was at launch, this game has clearly become an absolute hit on the console and a big win for Xbox. There wasn't a whole lot going on for the platform throughout 2017, but thanks to the Xbox One X and PUBG it seems the future is bright once again. PUBG is selling like crazy on the console hitting over 4 million users which is phenomenal considering the title has been there for just a month. It was debatable how well the console version would go over considering how wildly large it already was on PC, but it was definitely a good move by Xbox to get it on the platform.

Whether you care or not for the platform or even game, you have to give some praise for how insane that is sales wise. It's an even bigger deal for Xbox One in general having an exclusive for however long it'll be as one on that platform. It was the hottest game of 2017 and that seems to only be growing with the expansion onto the console into 2018. There's a steady pace for sales and if it keeps going like this it might reach some beyond surprising player counts. I've even seen a number of gamers considering the console just to be able to play the game and I honestly never thought of it as a console seller.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on Xbox One was a Big Win
Microsoft must be particularly happy having this first in their ecosystem as it seems to be a large draw for the Xbox One. The fears and doubt I initially had for the game have quickly evaporated as they're completely behind the game. It's already received a pile of updates and after a rough first week the game has been running smooth for the most part since. There have even been a number of improvements aside from stability and it's growing constantly towards being a completely steady experience for either Xbox One X or standard Xbox One consoles. I'm not sure if it's racing to leave Xbox Game Preview for a full launch or if there's just a large push to make sure it's in supreme shape. I've had a blast with it playing it a few times a week with friends, I haven't seen this sort of frequent dedication of playing from my friends since past Call of Duty or Gears of War titles.

It's certainly done wonders for Xbox so far in terms of marketing, sales and showcasing what the new console can do. As the currently leading battle royale game having that PUBG brand and experience on Xbox has been a big win. It'll be interesting to see if this momentum continues and just how long the exclusive partnership will continue. If Microsoft was really smart here they'd aim to lock it down for as long as they can as its most likely greatly exceeding expectations for them. I'm sure Playstation 4 players are hungry for this game and I'm curious if the draw will be as big there considering the larger install base against how "in" PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will be by the time it arrives if it does.
