Forza Horizon 3: Sky Report

Games have come a long way since their inception and one of the largest growing areas in them is the realism in the world around the player. Following that and my earlier article where I explored why I'm sick of clouds not moving games I've come up with the Sky Report. Here I will take a look at the lovely world of Forza Horizon 3 with a particular focus on the skybox while ignoring all other aspects of gameplay. For those somehow not familiar with Forza Horizon, it's an off-road open world racing game with a vast variety of cars and the latest entry was perfect. It also featured what might be the best sky of all time where they actually just went to Australia (the game's setting) and just captured the sky. This clearly shows in the game as it features dynamic weather and environmental conditions in relation to the sky. There are all sorts of skies and weather to deal with making ever single play of the game feel unique.

Some moments it'll be a sunny day with smooth clouds rolling over and then later it'll be a dark sunset filled with a heavy rain that splashes across your screen. It's actually quite amazing and something you should distinctly notice as it does make the experience feel that much more unique. It also brings the world far closer to a realistic setting as its always distinct and different no matter how long you're playing it. The world also cycles between day and night with numerous sky changes based on the day in the game. This is also reflected through random weather conditions such as various versions of rain or even fog. They take it a step further with their clouds by having them dynamically cast shadows over the world constantly.

This makes every single item have some sort of reflective or shadow property to them that further enhances every portion. It's actually so beautiful that I found myself often just sitting there in my Ferrari and enjoying the clouds rolling by. From what I've seen I don't think any games even comes close to the level of detail presented by the sky of Forza Horizon 3 and I dub it the best of the best in that regard. With that I do suggest taking a break from your many travels in game or Horizon and just take in the incredible sky that flows gently over head.
