Ubisoft E3 is the Worst Offender of Game Downgrades

Looking through some videos while editing this last week I stumbled upon my downloaded Rainbow Six: Siege E3 2014 reveal trailer. I thought I'd watch it to take a look at what has been changed since then and it was a crazy difference. I had completely forgotten how outstanding the game looked back then and comparing it to now the environments we currently have are terrible. I couldn't believe that the game had been so downgraded over the development period with really just the HUD being improved in that time. Now, I get that it's E3 and all games get shined up for the event though I thought I'd take a look further to see what other titles were downgraded in recent times. I found after some simple searching that Ubisoft was the worst offender at E3 for greatly downgrading their titles at launch. This article was waiting for the week before E3 to release though I caught a great Youtube video the other night that points these differences out greatly and you can see that below. With that I wanted to think about the top games from Ubisoft that I've recently played which were nothing like their E3 counterparts.

Ubisoft E3 is the Worst Offender of Game Downgrades

The first that came to mind and was a big deal for graphical complaints a bit back was Watch Dogs. Now, I actually did enjoy this title as I know many others didn't and when you compare it to the E3 presentation it's bad. You can tell there was a huge shift in terms of the details within the environments and the general lighting of the title. Many of the animations also saw a loss of detail and it was painful to see what it should have been. Another and my most played Ubisoft game is Rainbow Six: Siege where I've sunken a good couple hundred hours in so far. I just love the sieging aspects and that it gives me time between rounds to work on things which is nice. The E3 2014 trailer was what kicked off this whole article and it's crazy to see the absolute slaughtering of the amazing lighting system that game originally had. It was also disappointing to see the loss of destruction detail which has been improved recently and that the hostage looks terrible now. They looked so lively in the trailer and now it's the worst mode as you push around basically dead corpses.

The final game I want to mention is The Division which was another title I was hugely anticipating. I played many test portions of the title and it seriously downgraded from the many trailers it had across all those E3 events it was delayed. It's still impressive as they all are, I just can't believe that these titles lost so much details from their E3 reveals. The Division does look great, yet it lost many of the smaller details in the world and even some of the features as that Drone jump-in hasn't appeared in awhile. Many just forget about these reveals with the final titles, but with E3 coming up it's best to remember the show is about flash and entirely realism. I understand there are constraints of the consoles or development, but they shouldn't be showing people these breathtaking worlds and then pushing out something not even close.
