Top 5 Dragon Mobile Games

With recent development of several dragon breeding/battle games in the past few years, you may be wondering which ones to try. So, I thought it would be beneficial to create a list of the top 5. These five games will be ranked based on graphics, gameplay, controls, battle format, and availability.

#5: Dragon x Dragon

This game has decent background graphics compared to some other dragon games. However, the dragons don't fit too well as the background is more 3-D while the dragons follow a 2-D model. Another reason it didn't mark higher is due to the screen orientation being vertical instead of the horizontal norm; this makes the buttons and overall experience awfully small. Especially since the more you zoom in, the more pixely it gets which ruins the graphical experience. The battles aren’t too well done due to you not being able to choose the attack. You basically just sit back and hope your AI dragon knows what he's doing.

#4: Dragon City

Despite its popularity, this game didn't seem that great --perhaps too much overhype? The background and dragons are both 2-D. The dragons don't have the greatest animation, but that's fine. Zooming in or out has basically the same resolution so that's a plus. In battles, you choose three dragons to go in, then they each fight the enemy one at a time, while you tell them which attack to use. This gives the battles a Pokémon feel, which is good for those who are already familiar with that format. Note: It started as a Facebook game, then made its way to iOS and Android.

#3: DragonVale World

What a wonderful 3-D game! It came out January 2017 so some features are missing, but they are constantly adding more things as time passes. The dragons aren't all just 3-D Versions of their predecessors in DragonVale. Backflip Studios redesigned most of them, and they did a fantastic job! The graphics and animations are smooth, you can interact with your dragons, etc. Graphics are the same zoomed in and out. One thing I really like is that it's not just you and the classic wizard who appears in most dragon games. There are AI people in the town for you to interact with. From time to time, townspeople will even send you letters about useful tidbits for the game. Battles have not yet been added, so I’m very hopeful they will add those soon.

#2: Dragon’s World

The graphics are stunning for a game like this. The background and dragons are both vibrant 3-D with smooth animation. The resolution seems to stay the same whether zoomed in or out. You can even rotate the island a full 360°;An uncommon feature in these types of games! The music seems very soothing and is a nice bonus. The fights work like Dragon City.

#1: Dragon Mania Legends

There is SO much to do in this well thought-out game! It does get a little pixely when zoomed in too much, but that shouldn't be a problem, as it seems comfortable zoomed all the way out. Unfortunately, there are only 8 body types that are just reused, and some of them look more like dinosaurs or monsters than dragons. However, you're able to interact with the dragons a lot more than any other dragon game so far. You are even able to pet them for gold, and actually throw food to them! The Battle map has a campaign about a rivalry with Vikings. There are clans to join and interact with people, and fight rival clans in ‘Arena Battles.’ The Enchantment League is a battle mode that works like Dragon x Dragon battles. The ability to upgrade your dragon's attack gives them advantages and buffs during fights. This is an excellent game overall and I am pleased to deem it number one.
