Roblox Xbox One Review

"Mini Games"

Campaign

Roblox is a game I've long avoided despite many requests to play it on my Youtube channel and with it coming to Xbox I finally decided to give it a chance. The game is essentially just a series of mini games strung together into a package with more to come in the future.

At launch the package includes fifteen different titles and these offer a wide variety of gameplay and quality. All the offerings are basically mini games, but they each have their own style to them and seem to have a few things to do in each. On one hand some of the games were quite fun and I enjoyed playing them, though on the other hand some of the titles were awful.

I'll just briefly go over some of my personal favorites to give you an idea of what is available within the package. The first title I want to mention is Natural Disaster which has massive groups of players trying to survive wild storms with the buildings they're in collapsing, it's crazy and does get some frame drops. Another game is Strobe II which is a neon shooter title with some objectives in place and fairly well balanced gameplay, can get quite competitive.

The final game I want to highlight is Dodgeball where you play in these really official dodgeball matches to see which team can last the longest, I was very impressed with this one. This is of course just a basis of the fifteen games and there are some other good titles like one where you're a bird trying to survive or Stop it, Slender where it's a perfectly well done version of Slender. These all come together to create a decent game package, but they're really just a random collection of quick games to play.

Gameplay

It's a simple to play game as players select from a number of avatars and then just hop into a match. The matchmaking is simple and it's easy for friends to join you as well with an overall quick matchmaking.

I was surprised at how fast lobbies were filled and just the vast numbers of players present in lobbies. Aside from that the character movements are really basic with the characters themselves looking like weird block characters. Movement was also quite awkward in some of the titles though I suppose that's up to the creators of each area to make it function well.

Being a free game there are some free to play aspects, but these are well done in the design of having store items in every game that players can buy outfits or special decoration items and really nothing that gives anyone too much of an advantage in the games at this point.

The Conclusion

Roblox Xbox One brings with it a handful of decent mini game titles to play with promise of more to arrive over time. It's a very basic title on the console that doesn't really provide that much gameplay.

It'll be huge with the younger audience as it's a free title with silly modes though ultimately not something anyone else will really be interested in. Despite enjoying some of the games I didn't play many for very long and the Slender game was really my main play when hunting for one of the achievements.

It feels quite basic in general and doesn't offer too much gameplay, but for certain people I'm sure they'll love the title. It'll be interesting to see how big it gets with additional games, but for now it just doesn't provide much content or quality gameplay.
