I originally missed the first release of Brothers on the last generation consoles and honestly never got the whole praise while playing title, at least during the start. I initially was confused of the controls and they took time to get used to, but this concept of controlling two characters at once was great. To build on my first comments the story at the start was slow to an extent and I found the brothers somewhat as bullies with their interactions with people though the sense of adventure and sorrow was clearly defined after a couple of chapters. It blossomed into a perfect fairy tale as these brothers adventured towards finding this mystical tree. I actually never saw this coming as I assumed it was a realistic story during the beginning, but the scope widened really quickly and the sad elements were just crazy. I won't go further than that as spoilers would be spilled, it just has so many distressing elements. The story itself took you across so many wondrous areas with places that had their own special tales to tell. It was another one of those short and sweet titles that explored some basic movement mechanics. The puzzles themselves never took more than a few seconds to figure out and much of the movement was hanging on ledges.
Brothers looks absolutely stunning, ever single place you visit is incredibly detailed. The movement is solid and makes sense with the twin stick style though I had many issues with climbing across places which was annoying. Also thought checkpoints could have been better for this type of game as well. Other than that there really wasn't anything too difficult to do or figure out and I moved quickly. I did however fall through the map at one point which was funny, just had to restart checkpoint in that situation. The controls made sense and I loved the various other interactions you could within the world that weren't essential to story progression.
This tale of two sons was a great emotional journey that provided simple enough mechanics that many will be able to easily enjoy this experience. It was short to an extent, though the journey and places to go were stunning. I had some issues with the movement though really nothing too bad, I actually found the swinging areas to be the most creative use of platforming in the game. If you missed out on this game last generation or have somewhat of a desire to revisit this game then I definitely suggest it. Just be prepared for some emotional points which were really quite depressing littered throughout this fairy tale. Will finally mention that I question the cost for this title since it does come in at $20 which is a tad much for a short experience.
