It's always great when we get a free game on a console and especially when it's built off the wonderful Forza Horizon 2 which was such a treat to play a few months ago. This mini type game allows you to explore a set section of the European locale while pushing you along a series of small events. My playthrough on this version was just at two hours so others will spend more or less time depending on skill and what they do in the area. While there's a lot to do in this standalone it does feel quite like a bit of a demo to some extent for me at least having played the full Horizon 2 game and this provides a taste of the full experience. That being said for the starting value of being free and even the small purchase feel in the future it really isn't a bad deal at all. You definitely get a good amount of playtime from everything and generally the atmosphere was great. Missions had a good variety and the rate of which you unlocked content was fast enough to keep me focused while I continued my racing.
When it comes to gameplay you're given the beautiful open world of Horizon 2, though it's stripped down a bit which makes sense when keeping the content all in line. Additionally the details and destruction of this world are all present aside the most gorgeous of cars which have scanned into the game. There's even a number of special vehicles to coincide with the Fast and Furious label to make it feel more authentic to the movie experience that so many love. The music chosen also accompanies the atmosphere they're trying to create, yet I miss my options of many stations and rocking those classical tunes.
Overall this is a really solid standalone package presenting a good array of what I'd consider the most interesting aspects of Forza Horizon 2, yet in a smaller controlled environment. The world looks amazing again even after some time past and the array of missions keeps everything consistently interesting. If you're a fan of the movies or enjoy some racing than this thrill is well worth your time to check it out. Especially if you have yet to take a spin on any of the fine open roads in Forza Horizon 2.
