Slime Rancher Xbox One Impressions

Slime Rancher has recently been available on Xbox One via the Xbox Game Preview program which is the equivalent to Steam Early access which is where the title has been available in the past. In Slime Rancher your goal is to go around collecting adorable jelly slimes in order to harvest their drops for coins. With these collected coins you then continue to expand your farm in a number of ways such as pen improvements, new buildings and gardens. These upgrades can also be done to benefit your gun which is the key item used in the game. With it you suck up slimes, food and anything else moving around then simply shoot them out into the machines when needed. I've had a blast thus far with the game finding it to be charming and addicting as most farming type games are. It's also not just a game where you farm, but one where you explore and test out new methods of resource collection. Initially I worked on collecting as many slimes as I could since I find them adorable, but that didn't quite work out. Slimes would often jump from the few cages or get eaten by the black clouds. I found those enemies to be depressing as often they killed all my slimes before I could save them.

Going back to the exploration aspects you're able to unlock new sections and venture far from your farm. It's just that dangers may lurk over there, the game also has a strong focus on learning by trying things to see what works. I loved this as I was just testing things out and seeing that there's a lot of depth available. Gardens can be improved on with further upgrades just like with pens making it easier to control your slimes through various means. Slime Rancher also runs well at this point on Xbox One with only some small screen tears being present and it feels as though it's a full title already. I'm not sure what else they'll add before a full release, but it already feels like a proper full title. I already through many hours into this title as it just keeps you going with an addictive and fulfilling design, but also a bit of sorrow when the poor slimes get eaten by monsters. I'd definitely suggest checking this one out if you're looking for a good farming experience or even something a bit more laid back.
