At first glance Block Story looks exactly like Minecraft, though it does have a much more refined graphics style. The basic gameplay is exactly that of Minecraft with quests overlapped in it. Now these are more fetch oriented and have you aiming to basically stray off from basic survival. I had assumed that these quests would have me being prepared for survival, but they don`t do anything for you and I spent a couple in game days collecting things instead of building a house. It`s really off-putting to have a game clearly bit around living, where you`re aimed to do other things. The questing is fine and all, just the start needs to focus on what is important in the game. Now I will go on to discuss the basic look of the game which is alright and movement has a nice swing to it, it`s just everything else feels very mobile. It is a direct port with little changes that is very noticeable and I hope more time is spent in overhauling it. Crafting actually works really well and there seems to be a nice set of items to build. There also seem to be a number of creatures in the world, from giant spiders to basic wild boars that seemed to slaughter me. I was really disappointed when that wild boar killed me even though I had some shank type sword which did nothing, which leads me to be noting that combat is slow and wonky for my tastes. Now switching back to quests which are the whole story portion of Block Story, they are really conveniently available in terms of handing them in as the objective characters spawn in almost every square inch of the map and can be placed with a spawning block which I have happily put into the my homestead. Got me some awesome viking friends that are only slightly creepy. The random generated worlds certainly look interesting with unique lighting and gems which can make some out there tools. There`s everything from floating islands to deep caves filled with veins of gold or strange arrays of other colors. I`ll keep playing as it develops on the Steam Early Access, but at this point I`m really unimpressed. I expect better than just ports from mobile to PC, I just hate when they do that sort of thing. There`s no point putting out a new version on a new platform if nothing is really that unique or different. I guess there will be a dragon to slay at some point or I may be able to finally get my whole house up, but that seems to be in a far off future.
