Gears of War 2 Xbox One X Enhanced Preview

Gears of War 2 is looking really good on Xbox One X as this second entry in the franchise has been given a fresh enhancement. This was a big change for the series aiming to heavily increase the scale of the battles creating larger vistas and also providing a more emotional story along the way.

We had a shocking tale with Dom as he looked for his wife and saw the horrors of the Locust with our friend Tai. It was a selection of bold changes and it made for a more intense experience. The game was also expanded on all fronts as the multiplayer was stacked with maps.

Many additional options were added over time and even an extra campaign level of Road to Ruin which was a deleted chapter. This was a fun option as you went undercover if you'd like which was stealth based and completely different from anything else in the series.

The final aspect of the game was Horde, where you defended against waves of Locust as a team which was barbaric then yet a blast of strategy. It's great to enjoy this game again and in such a beautiful way as the Gears of War 2 Xbox One X Enhanced update is excellent.

I suppose I'll now go into specifics, remember that with these Xbox One X enhancements that nothing is changed within the game and it's just a resolution boost. On Xbox One X there's 9X the pixel count for quality. The game looks sharp around the edges and like a regular release.

I don't recall this entry being the most beautiful of games after the later releases but it looks great. The scenery is fantastic, the gameplay still feels gritty and smooth. It's a blast to jump back into no matter what part of the experience you're aiming to revisit. I checked out some of the campaign battling Sires which was even creepier than I remember it.

Those things and their gruesomeness really shines with this update. From there I jumped online for some Annex as I'll always loved that mode, it was dead then multiplayer wise so I waged war against the ruthless AI. It didn't have the same feeling as competing against others, yet it was still fun. The final aspect was Horde and wow, things have changed in that mode.

You had to get really creative in this one to block paths, unlike the various tools we have in the later releases. Whatever the case, Gears of War 2 is another fantastic look at what the premium console can do and hopefully Judgment is next in line. I'd like to mention that all the DLC is now free for the game so grab the full content and have a blast if you've never played this or want to give it another go.
