Fable 2 Xbox One X Preview

The latest pile of Xbox 360 games to get enhanced included this legendary exclusive RPG franchise. The Fable 2 Xbox One X enhancement delivers 9x the pixel count for a 4k resolution. It should be noted that this isn't a remaster, but just a boost in the visual quality of the game.

The core experience isn't touched, the game just gets a lovely improvement in regards to how it looks. This is a rather remarkable update for the series as Fable 3 was given a similar treatment. The game really does look fantastic here as I wandered around revisiting some old locations.

I had no idea what I was doing when I had previously played this, but I had a sort of evil look going on and I had obviously eaten a tad too much. That being said, it was fun to walk around battling some creatures and purchasing some houses with the large quantity of cash that had built up. I wooed a lady and then went on my way to visit some classic areas. The emotion options are still hilarious.

The textures mostly hold up quite well, even at this point. The game was always impressive and well loved, even upon reflection. The whole element of morality and then those choices altering your path directly was neat. A literal physical alteration which was different, something we don't see a whole lot of at this point in time. You also have a trusty dog, which bothers you perhaps a bit too much with dig finds. I hadn't noticed that aspect as much prior.

There was also a fun balance of sword play, ranged weapons and magic. The magic really looks cool with the increase in quality, but in general the whole game is looking stunning considering its age. I would really like to see a remastered bundle some day with the games, I feel they deserve it. This is a solid option for now, perhaps a reason as to why they won't get released as a collection. There might not be much value in it if they can touch it up minus the work involved. Chicken kicking in particular has never looked so good in this one.

That aside, this is a great way to experience the series and it's worth it if you've missed them in the past. They've never looked better on the console, the Xbox One X really delivers with this title. Those rough edges are cleaned up and it certainly helps add to the longevity of the experience for this one. You can read about a recent revisit below or check out the franchise hub for additional coverage on all things chicken kicking.
