The first downloadable pack for Call of Duty Ghosts is finally here pairing together a mixture of four multiplayer maps and one new episodic Extinction chapter. This first area will go over the multiplayer portion that brings a set of unique maps to the somewhat dull scene. My first note in starting this review is stating that I always have found the extra maps to be the best of the multiplayer experience, so let's begin. I'll start right away by noting my favorite which is Fog, it is literally pulled right from every horror movie you have ever seen. Mixing a number of random scenes of weird twisted death and tunnels this intricate map has a certain flow, along with look that just makes is absolutely memorable. From there we have a boardwalk styled map that has very interesting scenery as it appears to be a bit of a sea exhibit with fish and everything. It is also quite well layed out with great paths to maneuver through, except the random trolley that runs through it is really useless. Containment is also thrown in the mix bring you to this oddly clustered area of lower and higher places that is just hell for objective play. It was really my main negative of this pack and my entire playtime was just in question of why it would be designed to obviously create such a one sided style of play, if you don't own the mass side you will have no way of fighting back. On a final note we have the recreation of Scrapyard from MW2 called Ignition that is packed with familiar sights and is actually really a faithful redo. I don't have much to say except for the weird underground area they added that really doesn't do anything, but I don't feel it takes away from the map at all. Overall this is a nice addition for variety in Ghosts multiplayer, there are also some game changing strike package items of which you can get. Though those are usually boring with a motorstrike or such, but then again on Fog you get to be the most famous of horror character Michael Myers which has an axe and theme music. Which is honestly something you really don't see everday is completely uncommon in the shooter space. On a final note this pack really doesn't improve the spawning at all with some really awful places setup, so get ready to die in each of these even though it isn't your fault. I suppose I will also mention the new marksmen rifle and or sniper combo gun that you get called the Maverick, it packs a punch with what many would call an over-powered weapon. I tryed it for a bit after getting killed a few times with it in both sniper and rifle mode to find it as a nice alternative for my Honey Badger.
This dlc pack also brings with it a new episodic chapter park for Extinction titled Nightfall. It's a neat mix up from the usual boring town and brings this squad of soldiers we don't really care about to Alaska. It is an intense mission to uncover the happenings in this area and search for signs of a female scientist that sent distress. It is nice to see Extinction gain some story to it instead of just being an alien kill fest mixed with some defensive movement. This in the words of zombies in Black Ops brings a new location, bigger guns and extra secrets for you to find. I'd have to say the best part of this all was the completely badass giant monster creature you had to clear out that clearly had some appearance to that of Akrid from Lost Plant. In ending words the chapter Nightfall brings us some more Extinction to play with a new selection of weapons and other little gadgets to kill these aliens with. There is some more deepened story for those that care about this aspect and sets us up for an exciting season of Extinction maps.
Onslaught brings a nice variety of new maps for the multiplayer scene, though some are far better than others. The new gun is something overpowered for the season pass holders to have some advantage over others and the horror themed map Fog is awesome. Spawning is a definite issue I have and I question the layout choices in some of these maps for objectives. Extinction is another addition to the building story that brings us some giant boss creature with liquid guns and sets up for future episodes. It was an alright DLC pack, though nothing too over the top tempting that you need it right away.
