Gears of War 4: Run the Jewels Airdrop Review

"Rappers of War"

Campaign

The Run of the Jewels Airdrop is the first real sort of DLC for Gears of War 4, or at least for the cost should be rated as so. In this pack there are the two core rappers, EL-P and Killer Mike which lend their appearances and voices to the game. They're available for all aspects of multiplayer and actually both fit into the combat well. Mike comes across as a younger Cole Train whereas EL-P is slick rocking some styling shades. The two also have a lot to say with some great one-liners and colorful language that adds a different flair to the action. I found the group actually added a nice bit of variety into multiplayer and it was great to have some fresh faces as the launch bunch has already gotten repetitive.

Aside from the characters the drop also includes a bounty for each of them and a new set of unique weapon skins. This set is nice featuring a turquoise-like color with a special decal icon and you were given a skin for every single weapon in the game. This was quite refreshing as I traditionally buy weapon skin packs for Gears and am not a fan of paying for random chance. At least when you buy this pack you know exactly what you're getting and that is something I'm sure many will appreciate.

The Conclusion

With this pack you're set with a full pack of weapon skins for every single gun in the game. It's a welcomed change of pace from the random card packs where you're not sure what you might receive. The characters of EL-P and Killer Mike work well in the multiplayer experience having some stronger language, but also some hilarious one-liners. It's a decent pack featuring a good set of items and you know exactly what you're getting with it. I feel the price is quite a bit high and while I normally don't mention that in reviews it really needs to be for this one.
