Fallout 4: Vault Tec Workshop Review

"Guinea Pig Facility"

Campaign

The Fallout 4 DLC thus far has been ranging from average to poor in quality and with the Vault Tec Workshop pack I had high expectations. Not in general quality, but rather the amount of depth they'll give us in order to build the vault of our dreams.

The pack is basically a combination of my two favorite things in the game, the first being the vaults and the second being the settlement mode. With that I can say it definitely captures the two well and provides you with a large enough space to build whatever sort of Vault 88 you want.

The pack contains just a massive selection of set pieces and almost anything you would come across in any generic vault. That aside I did somewhat wish there would have been more specialty items aside from the wide range of posters, room titles or fun items like giant vault people statues.

The DLC also isn't just some additional set of items as it does include a small set of quests to make the experience match the world. Coming in with a radio signal you'll need to check out this triggered alert and learn more about the origins of this vault and what happened. It's a really short quest line, but at least it's something to make the experience feel as though it's another side experience in the overall game.

Fallout 4: Vault Tec Workshop

The Conclusion

The Vault Tec DLC wasn't by any means amazing, but it does grant players access to the tools and the space to build their own vault. While it's not on the level of Fallout Shelter or as detailed in smaller items as I'd like it still does capture that magic of controlling a vault.

You get to not only build a vault, but also run it with settlers and even work out experiments if you're creative enough as well. It also provides some small extra story elements to make the vault fit into the story and I did appreciate that.

As with all other Workshop reviews I'll mention that while PC players don't get a huge benefit from the items there are some snazzy new items, quest lines and a fairly large space to build within. As someone that likes settlements and loves vaults this package is great, it provides a nice expansion to the experience.
