Xbox VR will have lots of Catching up to Do

At this point it really seems that Virtual Reality is going to have a full place in gaming with almost everyone working on it whether that's with games or even hardware.

The next Xbox Scorpio is also set to have compatibility with VR and while we know nothing about what's going to be supported there Playstation VR is already gaining large ground with multiple exclusive experiences and just a large library of VR games. Not only are there going to be a pile of games released purely built for VR, but other developers are working on updating existing experiences or even offering special VR aspects for existing properties.

We're seeing things such as Star Wars Battlefront having an "X-Wing" experience or Batman Arkham VR and even an upcoming exclusive Call of Duty VR experience. These are all quite big third party deals that are being built for the future of Playstation VR and they're going to have a year's advantage over whatever Xbox is going to do with their eventual VR setup.

There are also other factors that might lead to early dominance for Playstation's VR has it's much more affordable than the PC headsets and it works incredibly well. I've personally checked it out at Playstation's E3 2016 Experience (preview here) and another staff member got an earlier look at Pax East 2016 (preview here) with similar thoughts on the great quality it provides.

So not only is Playstation providing a great quality device, it's being brought to market at an affordable entry level price while also having a stellar launch library (considering later release window titles too here).

To compare Xbox VR is just mentioned as compatible at this point so anything could happen there. Microsoft already has a partnership with Oculus Rift bundles including Xbox One Controllers so they might move forward with them, but they've also mentioned that Fallout 4 VR will be coming and headed to the HTC Vive.

Being a Windows 10 device it may very well support both devices which would be awesome or they might even be going the route of a specialized Xbox VR headset. At this point I'm not particularly sure where they'll head as there are many options for the company, but with them heading towards AR with Hololens I'm not sure whether a full VR push of their would be ideal.

Whatever the case it for what happens in the future for Xbox Virtual Reality we'll definitely know at E3 2017 and Xbox will have lots of catching up to do as Playstation VR is already building a strong start.
