She Remembered Caterpillars is a lovely colorful puzzle matching game where the goal is to get these little creatures to their launch pads. Brief bits of story are interlaced between the forty levels presented and each introduces a new type of mechanic. There are also overall chapters that split up the game and these are sorted through a beautiful spiraling menu that's hard to explain quite honestly, it looks strangely awesome though. I found that each puzzle brought new and creative ways to constantly evolve while continuously offering fresh challenges. Things might feel simple at the start, but it's merely introducing you to core concepts in an easy way before really offering a good challenge. Each stage features a unique layout with a different setup of the little characters that you control. These characters are efficient though basic in that they directly follow the commands you give them so you'll need to guide them around. The levels also feature these colored creatures that act as bridges or gates which only allow certain character colors to pass through.
The characters come in a variety of colors which can be combined, split apart and manipulated in a number of ways to let them progress through gates. Aside from color being a core component there are other smaller details which can help with differentiating the various possible paths. The game also offers a number of color-blind modes that make it accessible for everyone. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous featuring many small and great details to create a charming whimsical world. The puzzles can get confusing at times as you progress though all were logical and just took time to think through. This was made easier by the soft music in the background and the beautiful art that accompanied it. The characters were also rather adorable as they'd run around and occasionally bump into a gate knocking them down.
The game is absolutely beautiful featuring some gorgeous artwork that makes each new puzzle feel completely unique. The puzzles offered a great challenge while scaling in a way that highlighted each new mechanic. The story was great being weaved in small doses that helped set the stage for the next puzzle while progressing the narrative. She Remembered Caterpillars tells a lovely story while providing challenging puzzles in a beautiful world.
