Forza Horizon 3: Hot Wheels Expansion Review

"Toys to Life"

Campaign

Forza Horizon 3: Hot Wheels Expansion is one of the best pieces of DLC I've ever played. It takes the absolutely stellar Forza Horizon 3 and throws the intensity of Hot Wheels into the mix. If you love the base game, this takes that to the next level. Things start off like they usually do, you get the option for a new event and head out there. What greets you is this spectacular chain of islands with loops of orange track wrapping into the horizon. It's crazy, I never imagined anything like this before as it's literally a real version of the Hot Wheels I played with when I was young. These tracks loop everywhere and anywhere with each view of the area from any place looks insane.

It's got unbelievable stunts, custom races and tons of events to take part in as you earn stars to hit the next tier. Each race or activity has a set of stars for you to achieve and these feed into the tier level system. When building you can also select certain track pieces from classic Hot Wheel pieces and that is amazing. You basically just carry a smile the entire time as it's not only vibrant, but lengthy as well with many hours of fresh gameplay to enjoy.

The Conclusion

This is truly one of the best expansions I've ever played in a game bringing pure magic into the world of Horizon 3. It somehow works perfectly for the game matching the tone well while giving us tons of new content. There are fresh cars, a very large scale world to drive through and many race circuits to complete. While I most certainly praise all elements, the only slight issue is that some vehicles have trouble on jumps. Some of the wild track pieces have you going across massive gaps or certain loops and a selection of cars are unable to perform them making you lose races. This isn't an issue for a widespread amount of vehicles, but it was somewhat sad to see my Warthog not be able to clear an area.

That aside, Forza Horizon 3: Hot Wheels was just beautiful to play and something I couldn't have ever possibly imagined being available in a Forza game. After this, I want to see even more crazy expansions as they can seemingly pull off anything if they make Hot Wheels come to life. Also, be wary of the dinos!
