It seems like not too long ago we received the first Fallout 4 DLC pack and now we're given a smaller effort that's aimed towards boosting the Settlement side of things. This area is actually my favorite aspect of Fallout 4 as I think building your small bases across the Commonwealth is just the best. With this pack we've given a wide variety of new items to build with and best of all the ability to trap creatures from across the wasteland. I'll go over the details in a second though I want to mention that for consoles this is a great piece of DLC for a small price to build the experience, but for PC players with mod abilities this is honestly just useless and I've seen many of these additions as mods already so not quite worth it. New items in the settlements include a number of generic pieces which is good, some decorative pieces such as taxidermy and even an array of letters to post around in order to keep your area sorted out. There's a good selection of items to use and for the most part these are well welcomed including garden plots which are fantastic for the console players.
The best part of this DLC is the ability to trap and then tame creatures from across the wasteland. This is done mostly well though the process itself isn't too complex which was disappointing. You basically just make a trap from the required materials, place a power near it and then sleep for a couple days. After that you capture a creature, then just turn off the generator to let it out to roam around the settlement. For hostile enemies you'll need to put up a beacon that makes them docile and that's really it. You can also set up little matches with some arena plates and such like that, but I don't quite see the point. I think my favorite character to tame was the Mirelurk as mine was green and just scuttled around providing extra defense which was cool. You can see him below being glitched on top of a spot, but he just scuttles around everywhere which was neat.
For PC players this piece is essentially useless aside from the refined trapping though it was rather basic so I'm sure a mod will emulate that perfectly soon. Everything else has mostly been made better if I may say by the mod community so I'd stay away from this one. That aside this was reviewed on a console so for those players this is a fantastic pack for those that enjoy their settlements and have been desperate for new items to build with. The trapping is also an interesting aspect despite being a bit too simplistic, yet difficult to understand at first since I wasn't sure what the game had wanted. It even glitched at one point where the door wouldn't open so I had to teleport around a bit until it worked which was disappointing. By the end of my time playing this new pack it's rather average and for niche group, but I'm sure some will spend hours collecting Super Mutants or Deathclaws to have them fight each other for entertainment.
